"Building Back Better by deepening the integration of the SDGs in national and local planning processes: effective multilevel governance and the role of VLRs in supporting local authorities" is the side event organized on 12 July 2022 by Italy together with the UNECE, UN-Habitat and the OECD ahead of the High Level Political Forum in which our country will present its Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The event will take place online from 13:15 to 15:00 and will focus on the multilevel governance as a tool to decline national strategic objectives at local level. In order to strengthen the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SNSvS, there is a need for harmonization and integration of the SDGs into national and local planning processes.

Voluntary Local Reviews involving directly different levels of government and non-state actors provide an opportunity to describe efforts in place as well as local requests. The VLRs (Voluntary Local Reviews) therefore represent a valuable input to the Local 2030 Coalition initiative launched by the United Nations System to encourage the involvement of local actors in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
