On 17 May, during the Open Gov Week 2022, the Open Government Partnership (OGP) officially welcomed the thirty-nine new local governments that have joined the OGP Local programme and the 76 current members.

Several months ago, OGP announced an expansion of the programme with a planned intake of up to 50 new local governments: the registration was open until 16 March 2022.

The growth of OGP Local is an important step forward in dissemination of the open government principles. Local governments provide key services that directly affect people's daily lives. Through the OGP Local initiative, administrations can learn how to use and disseminate the open government values to best meet the needs of the local community.

At the moment, Italy is represented only by the Municipality of Palermo, which undertook the commitment in October 2020, however, the progress should be emphasized in the entire European area in general. For more information, watch the webinar "Opengov local: experiences of regional and local open government" organized by FormezPA as part of the Settimana dell'Amministrazione Aperta 2021.
